The Hypnocube Is Your OMG-I-Can’t-Look-Away Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

The lights. The pretty lights. I can’t stop looking at the lights. A few hours ago I thought I was hungry, then the lights came on. They lulled my hunger away. Maybe the lights are trying to tell me somethings? I have to find the pattern. The light pattern will be the answer to everything. They’re so pretty. They never judge. What day is it? Who cares. Time doesn’t matter when you’re engulfed by the lights. I love you lights. Money does’nt doesn’t matter. Okay, money still still matters. It mattered when I bought the lights for $80. I saved $20. That $20 can be used to blackout the windows in my apartment so I can stare into the lights without being distracted by other light sources. -RB More »

Survival Lab is a fun pixelated game where dying doesn’t matter

Survival Lab
In most games, dying is a bad thing. You have to start all over again, or at least revert to the last save point and lose some progress. Not so in Survival Lab: in this pixelated gem you play as a lone individual pitted against ruthless weapons in a sealed chamber. You have to run, jump and duck, collecting little yellow things (I have no idea what they’re called).

For each donut-like yellow thing you pick up, you gain a bit of experience. If you manage to collect several in a row without getting hit, this counts as a combo. You can see my mad combo skills in the screenshot, of course. Collecting combos is a good thing, because a ten-point combo gives you for more experience than just collecting ten dounts one by one (getting hit in-between).

TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available

tripadvisor windows phone 7TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related — from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination.

Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that’s a neat feature, it’s also a bit of a downer — because, really, it’s about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn’t already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn’t work with WP7 at the moment).

All PlayBooks go to heaven: Telus leak points to end-of-life status

This is the end, dear PlayBook-admiring friends. That is to say, it’s the end-of-life for RIM’s first unsuccessful stab at tablet computing. Unsurprisingly, the marketing blitzkrieg that saw J.Lo and the Flash Gordon theme awkwardly peddle the flailing tab hasn’t done much to elevate sales or consumer interest, forcing its Canadian overlords to issue Telus an EOL notice. This not unexpected bit of news comes right on the heels of the BB maker’s recently leaked device roadmap, in which a spring bow for a higher-specced, 3G+ enabled iteration is clearly denoted. Whatever Waterloo’s near future plans for the category are, we know for sure they won’t include BB 10 until much later this year. Chin up though, folks. At least we have OS 2.0 to soothe our fraught nerves in the interim.

AMD’s new plan: focus on tablets, cloud computing and developing markets

Chipzilla has long been atop the PC chip manufacturing mountain, with AMD running a rather distant second. That’s why AMD’s new top man, Rory Read, plans to move the company in a more mobile direction. Speaking at the company’s analyst day, Read stated that the chipmaker will focus on outflanking Intel in the tablet space and by growing its business in cloud computing and emerging markets like China (read: entry-level PCs and devices). As to whether AMD would venture into the smartphone space, Read was quite clear in stating that there were no plans to do so. But, he did make mention of being flexible when it came to chip architecture, including using 3rd party IP in developing new silicon — so a switch to ARM may not be out of the question. How will AMD accomplish its new goals? By focusing on execution of its technology rather than trying to be on the bleeding edge — sound familiar?

What the Hell Did Researchers Pull from the Depths of New Zealand’s Seas? [Wtf]

No, this photo hasn’t been ‘shopped. You are looking at a specimen from a barely-known and even-more-rarely-seen group of “Supergiant” amphipods—crustaceans that grow twenty times the size of their relatives and can measure a foot or more in length. More »
